Some initiatives begin with an idea; others are the natural outcome of a way of practising medicine. Fundación ROC belongs to the latter.
On 18 June, we had the privilege of officially launching Fundación ROC at Sala SOLO in Madrid. This is a project we have been building for a long time, representing the next step in a commitment that has guided us for many years. It was a particularly meaningful occasion, allowing us to share with healthcare professionals, institutions, companies, collaborators and friends a vision of medicine that extends far beyond patient care.
Throughout our journey at ROC Clinic, we have had the privilege of caring for thousands of patients, contributing to research projects, training healthcare professionals and working alongside medical teams both in Spain and internationally. This experience has reinforced a simple belief: medicine is also about sharing knowledge, creating opportunities and putting our expertise at the service of those who need it most.
Fundación ROC was created to give greater continuity and reach to that commitment. Its mission is to improve people’s lives through health and education by promoting medical education, scientific research and international healthcare cooperation. It is not about starting something new, but about strengthening work that has been part of our identity for many years and providing it with a structure that allows its impact to grow even further.
This project would also not be possible without the people who make up ROC Clinic. Fundación ROC reflects the commitment of a team united by the same vocation of service and by a shared belief that medicine extends far beyond the consultation room. Every member of our team, in their own role, has helped shape this way of practising medicine, which now finds a new opportunity to grow through the Foundation.
We believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming medicine. Every healthcare professional who acquires new knowledge multiplies its benefits for hundreds of patients throughout their career. In the same way, research enables us to move towards more accurate diagnoses and more effective treatments, while international cooperation reminds us that knowledge reaches its greatest value when it is shared.
None of this would have been possible without the support of HM Hospitales and the Fundación Española de Cooperación Sanitaria (FECS). Today, we continue to develop international healthcare cooperation projects in countries such as Tanzania and Honduras, working alongside local healthcare professionals and organisations to strengthen healthcare services and create opportunities where they are needed most.
The official launch of Fundación ROC was an important milestone because it allowed us to publicly share this project with many of the people who have accompanied us throughout this journey. In reality, however, it was not a beginning. It was the confirmation of a way of understanding our work and of a commitment that will continue to grow thanks to the dedication of so many people who believe that medicine can have a positive impact far beyond the consultation room.
I have always believed that medicine does not end when a consultation is over. It is also built through research, education, collaboration and working alongside others to improve people’s lives. That has always been our purpose. Fundación ROC is simply a new way of continuing that commitment.
