Yesterday, November 2, took place the meeting “Salud en Masculino” organized by Diario ABC and ROC Clinic. This event was endorsed by two of the most important associations in the field of Urology: the Spanish Association of Urology and the American Confederation of Urology.
In this forum we transmit clear and direct messages about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of pathologies such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer, as well as promoting awareness in the general population, encouraging hope.
During this symposium, we had the participation of three great urologists, Dr. Alejandro Rodriguez, Secretary General of the American Confederation of Urology, Dr. José Luis Alvarez Ossorio, President of the Spanish Association of Urology and my colleague, the Deputy Director of ROC Clinic, Dr. Juan Justo Quintas.
In the first part we talked about Prostate Cancer, one of the most frequent diseases in older men.
Here we discussed topics such as incidence and importance of:
- Prostate Cancer in our environment (number of men affected, expenses in diagnosis and treatment)
- Possible forms of prevention and lifestyle habits.
- The importance of screening and early detection, status of screening and early detection in the USA.
- Genetic/hyper-early diagnosis: where do we stand.
- The importance of an accurate biopsy to define the disease and personalize treatment.
- Active surveillance and focal therapy.
- Robotic surgery and the role played by other approaches at present and finally.
- The role of radiotherapy in this pathology.
Secondly, we had the opportunity to talk about another of the pathologies that concern us in men, testicular cancer.
On this occasion, we touched on topics such as:
- The incidence and importance of this pathology in our environment.
- The importance of self-examination and explained the proper way to perform one.
- Life expectancy in testicular cancer and the importance of diagnosis in early stages of the disease.
I would like to thank all those who made this space possible and shared their time to talk about the importance of going to the urologist for periodic check-ups, and offering a message of positivism for men and their families.
