Once again we talked about prostate cancer prevention and the importance of annual check-ups for early detection on the program “¿Qué Me Pasa, Doctor?” on La Sexta.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer suffered by men and the third cause of cancer-specific mortality. This type of tumor, in its initial stages, does not produce symptoms or any alteration that the patient can detect. It is essential to have annual check-ups with the urologist after the age of 45, especially if there is a family history of prostate cancer, in order to detect this type of tumor early.
Early diagnosis helps us to offer therapies that can cure the patient and increase not only survival, but also avoid side effects such as urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction and other complications that may appear.
Screening for prostate cancer is very simple and consists of a blood test to determine the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), a rectal examination, an ultrasound scan and a flowmetry. It is very important that men go to the doctor and undergo the necessary tests to avoid a diagnosis at an advanced stage.
