On the occasion of World Prostate Cancer Day, celebrated on June 11th, ROC Clinic<\/a> held the 1st Prostate Cancer Forum in collaboration with the newspaper La Raz\u00f3n at the newspaper’s headquarters last Wednesday at 17:30. The event is available online for those who wish to watch it later through this link.<\/a><\/p>\n

The newsletter supplement \u201cA Tu Salud\u201d<\/a> was in charge to cover the main conclusions of the gathering, where doctors, patient associations and patients with previous diagnosis came together to discuss the importance of early detection, treatments, and the needs of patients with this pathology.<\/p>\n

The event began with the welcome speech of the newspaper director, Francisco Marhuenda followed by the intervention of the director of the Urology Department in HM Hospitals and the Medical Director of ROC Clinic, Dr. Javier Romero-Otero, who was in charge to moderate the first panel of experts, which included doctors Alfredo Rodriguez Antol\u00edn, Head of the Urology Department at Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre; Karim Touijer, prostate cancer expert at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center<\/a> in New York and Juan Francisco Rodriguez Moreno, coordinator of the Prostate Cancer and Melanoma Area at HM CIOCC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During our interventions we highlighted the importance of raising awareness among the male population related to the significance of annual check-ups because, in the case of a prostate cancer<\/a> diagnosis, we currently have a variety of customized solutions for each specific case, along with a multidisciplinary team.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, there was a second panel of patients formed by interventions from Ana Isabel Gonz\u00e1lez M\u00e1rquez, head of the Service and Programs Area of the Asociaci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola Contra el C\u00e1ncer<\/a> (AECC); Marcos Mart\u00ednez Cort\u00e9z, manager of GEPAC<\/a>; Santiago G\u00f3mez D\u00edaz, first vice-president of ANCAP<\/a>, and F\u00e9lix Alonso Navas, prostate cancer patient.<\/p>\n

In the second part of the venue, associations and patients expressed their needs and points of view regarding the disease, openly addressing the taboo that currently around discussing prostate cancer and its emotional, functional, and sexual consequences.<\/p>\n
